Happy about: Ion Fury: Aftershock

Four years ago Ion Fury became the first new commercial product in about 20 years to utilize the Build engine, best known for being used in Duke Nukem 3D, Blood and Shadow Warrior. The experience of playing the game was kinda neat, but also slightly confusing as while it was truly a classic FPS down to its engine, it also felt like a somewhat pointless exercise that didn’t really enhance the experience. Though the biggest issues of the title, as I’ve felt, were somewhat uninspired enemies and weapons and its extremely long length without as much variety in terms of levels. Aftershock is a new expansion for the game that addresses some of those flaws and leads to a result that, in my opinion, is superior to the main game itself.

Ion Fury: Aftershock

In love with: Cyberpunk 2077 (2.01 with Phantom Liberty)

I suppose, Cyberpunk 2077 is the perfect example of why is it I try to avoid playing and reviewing games until they’re “complete”. Though, surprisingly, the big change that makes my old review somewhat outdated isn’t the new expansion Phantom Liberty, but rather the 2.0 patch that overhauled the game in a substantial way and all of the patches that preceded it. I loved playing the game even more than before, but this time I can also easily recommend it to others. All it took was “just” 3 extra years of development…

Happy about: Resident Evil 4 – Separate Ways

While every Resident Evil release since the wonderful new RE2 has evoked varying degrees of disappointment, you never know if the next one will be exciting again. The remake of Resident Evil 4, released earlier this year, was quite good but also full of infuriatingly baffling decisions and most people were sure that Separate Ways mode won’t be added to it, if it wasn’t there on release. It was a remake, after all, and it made all the sense to include everything that was canonical to the original version, including the additional modes that the original game had. And even though Separate Ways were not part of the first release of Resident Evil 4, they were added since the PS2 version and were included in all of the newer releases.

Yet here we are, with the Separate Ways paid DLC that is released half a year after the main game. And to my surprise, I find it more entertaining than the main game itself.

Resident Evil 4 – Separate Ways

Disapprove: Resident Evil Village – Winters’ Expansion

Two years ago I’ve completed Resident Evil Village and while my first playthrough of it was very entertaining, it turned out to be the least replayable RE game for me. I got bored on my third playthrough, while trying to unlock more stuff as I usually do, and found myself so utterly bored with the game that I stopped and haven’t looked at it since then. That is, until Winters’ Expansion, a new DLC, got released and I’ve finally decided to play it. At worst I expected this to be more of the same and, following this logic, at least fun on the first playthrough. But no. It wasn’t fun even the first time around.

Resident Evil Village – Winters’ Expansion

Revisiting The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Anniversary Edition)

Well, it’s been more than a decade since I’ve played The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim originally and over 8 years since I’ve played the “Legendary Edition” with all of the official DLCs. The “Special Edition” has been released 2 years after that and last year, another 6 years later, the Anniversary Edition got announced and released. The amount of ports and re-releases of Skyrim has long since became a widely known joke… and yet, here I was playing Skyrim again, spending dozens upon dozens of hours on a game that I’ve completed twice before. A game that doesn’t have that much of a compelling storyline or involved and exciting mechanics. Why is it that Skyrim still has a strange addictive charm to it and its legacy is still felt through all of the open world titles released ever since?

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Anniversary Edition)
